Master Bharat Thakur is the brainchild behind Artistic Yoga. The yoga style is very unique and powerful, which helps one develop a beautiful and healthy body. The yoga is intense and designed in such a way that without tiring or taxing the person, it helps to energize the body and quieten the mind. Artistic yoga blends ancient yoga techniques, which include poses (asanas), pranayamas (breathe control exercises), locks (bandhas) and kriyas (cleansing techniques); with cardio-vascular training. This helps a person to develop inner peace and self awareness; cultivate core strength.
The artistic yoga practices benefits all the levels. It develops strength flexibility and endurance at the physical level through asanas. At the mental and spiritual level, through meditation it helps to develop awareness and alertness. The yoga form is suitable for any person regardless of age size, strength, weight, etc.
The yoga’s innovative style makes it suitable to energise people, relieve stress and control obesity. One may achieve complete physical and mental transformation on doing this yoga as it employs a variety of practices. The techniques are capable of relieving physical and mental stiffness. Chanting and meditation are also included in order to calm the mind.
Aristic yoga, taking from its name, is usually beneficial to people who have artistic talents or creativity. Hence poets, writers, painters, actors, musicians, etc can benefit from this yoga. On regular practice of this yoga with true spirit, it works all aspects of fitness, i.e., cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, strength and mental health.
Practice:
The yoga asanas in this form of yoga is done in a dancing style. The asanas stretch and strengthen the body keeping it fit and rejuvenated. Artistic yoga can be done within the confines of the home. Prior experience in yoga is not required. Although the artistic yoga may seem very difficult in the beginning, it is very easy to do and a total different approach to a holistic workout.
Here are some of the asanas under artistic yoga:
Pranadharna:
This is the first asana that must be done under artistic yoga.
1. Begin by standing straight and look in front of you.
2. Join your hands in prayer.
3. Keep your hands at the centre of your chest.
4. Close your eyes and take deep breaths. Inhale and exhale for 5-10 minute.
5. Then release and relax for a while
Urdhva Dhanurasana / Upward Bow Pose:
1. Begin by kneeling down on the floor.
2. Lift your hands up in the air and bend backwards as much as you can.
3. Get off your knees, by bending your legs, such that the soles of your feet touch the floor.
4. Now bend your hands at your elbows. The palms must touch the ground beside your head and the forearms must be perpendicular to the floor.
5. Pressing your feet and palms firmly on the floor, with a force push your body up from the floor.
6. Firm your outer thighs and also move your upper thighs inward.
7. Stay in this position for a while taking deep breaths and then release.
Purvottanasana / Upward Plank Pose:
1. Begin by sitting on the floor with your legs kept straight in front of you.
2. Place your hands on either side of your body, a little behind your hips.
3. Now bend your knees, such that the feet touch the floor.
4. Your heels must not be a foot distance away from the hips.
5. Raise your hips up, such that your body forms a reverse table pose.
6. Straighten out your legs in front of you with the heels touching the ground.
7. Remain in this position for a few minutes breathing deeply and then relax.
Bakasana / Crane Pose:
1. Begin by standing straight on the floor.
2. Lift your hands up to the ceiling and stretch them.
3. Also lift your body up on your toes and try to balance on your weight.
4. Bring your feet back onto the floor.
5. Bend down from your hips till your palm touches the ground.
6. Now gently lift your legs off the floor and bend your knees place them against your arm.
7. Look down at the floor, a little away from your hands and remain in this pose taking few breaths.
Hanumansana / Monkey Pose:
1. Begin by kneeling down on the floor.
2. Bring your right foot in front of your left knee.
3. Now your left thigh must be rotated outward.
4. Your body and chest must be moved forward.
5. Bend your right knee to the back and keep your left knee straight so that you can lower yoru right thigh.
6. Raise your hands up to the ceiling and join your hands in prayer. Look up to your hands. Close your eyes and relax.
Ardha Chandrasana / Half Moon Pose:
1. Begin this asana by standing straight on the floor.
2. Raise your arms such that they are in line with your body and parallel to the floor.
3. Lift your right leg off the ground at 90 degree angle.
4. Also bend towards your left hand side, till your left hand touches the ground and is in line with your left leg.
5. The right hand must be in straight line with the shoulders and the left hand. Look upwards to your right hand. Remain steady for a few minutes and repeat the same on the other side.
Padahastasana / Hand under foot pose:
1. Begin by standing straight on the floor.
2. Raise and stretch your hands up to the ceiling, slightly bending your body backwards.
3. Now bend forward all the way till you touch your feet with your fingers.
4. Then slowly come back and stand straight. Relax.
Tips while doing Artistic Yoga:
1. Since it is done in a dancing style, try to be gentle and perform the poses similar to that of a dancing motion.
2. You can also play some soothing music during your practice so that you can perform them in dance movement style.
